Drop Ochocinco

Although he is popular and entertaining, Chad Ochocinco's room for big plays simply isn't there for New England. He is used as more of a slot receiver on 3rd down. Wes Welker or one of the Patriots' tight ends are likely targets to mainly get the ball. Don't keep Ochocinco in hopes that he'll have a breakout game because he won't. It's not that Chad is going through a slump, he just isn't used as much as Carson Palmer did.

Don't make this mistake before 1:00 this Sunday

I don't know why people do this, but when a team loses their starting player, fantasy owners decide to add and start the player's lousy backup. It rarely works successfully. Here's a few guys not to touch:

-Blaine Gabbert - He hasn't started a game yet and will start his first NFL game this Sunday. He is unproven and hasn't given anybody a reason to start him. Don't touch him.

-Mike Kafka - Who? Michael Vick goes down and they play their 3rd string QB who does a decent job. He has no NFL experience whatsoever. Don't touch him.

-Jon Kitna - Yeah, he did pretty good after Romo went on the IR last season. The Cowboys weren't that good before Romo recently was injured and won't be any better without him. Don't touch him.

-Kerry Collins - DO NOT TOUCH. He is old, he announced retirement non-Favre like, and came back unexpectively. He knows nothing about the Colts offense, and obviously isn't doing a good job with them. The Colts are awful this year. Don't touch him.
Time to pick up Cam Newton?

Over 900 yards combined in his first two games of his NFL career. Five touchdowns. Last year, picking up Peyton Hillis from the FA list was huge for whoever did. I strongly suggest picking up Cam Newton, especially if you originally drafted Peyton Manning.

One Game Down...One Man Down

So after a great game to start the season we already have a significant injury to report on. Marques Colston is set to be out four weeks with a broken collarbone. Clearly if you were an owner of him you want to pick up Robert Meachem and add him to your team asap! If he is gone I would go for Devery Henderson or Lance Moore. Careful with Lance Moore as he sat out last game due to a groin problem. I have Colston in a couple of leagues but I decided not to drop him. I mean, he is on that line right now where he is about to be cut, but I have to at least give him a shot when he gets back and am not willing to allow him to go to someone else without seeing how he performs when he gets back. When he returns, pay close attention to how he performs. Remember he DID just have surgery on his knee not to long ago, so the kid is pretty banged up right now.As for his 4 weeks out...well I doubt it will only be 4 weeks. I am expecting it to be more of 6-8 weeks.

Clearly All New Orleans WR's get a jump in value from this but I think the ones who will benefit the most will be Jimmy Graham and Meachem. If Moore was healthy, he would be the clear choice here. Also don't worry about Bree's production. He will remain the same and still have plenty of targets. Darren Sproles can also see a jump in value...but if you watched the game, I didn't need to tell you that.

A Look At Matthew Stafford’s Fantasy Potential

The high profile of the Lions franchise today is going to mean that some of you will swallow anything positive I have to say, and some of you will reject it. That said, I am not here to suggest that the Lions are an elite team, nor that Matthew Stafford is an elite quarterback. My goal is simply to lay out a hypothetical scenario in which Matthew Stafford breaks the top 5 in terms of fantasy points.
All the statistical analysis from here on out assumes he, and his receiving corps, stay healthy the entire year. That is definitely not a certainty, which is why this is hypothetical. I cannot stress that enough.
Now, so you have some idea of how potent the Lions pass attack was in 2010, let’s look at the 2010 stats of all three Lions QBs combined.

In 2010 Lions QBs combined for the following:

Yards: 4001 (Hill: 2686, Stanton: 780, Stafford: 535)

TDs: 26 (Hill: 16, Stanton: 4, Stafford: 6)

Ints: 16 (Hill: 12, Stanton: 3, Stafford: 1

Rushing Yards: 247 (Hill: 123, Stanton: 113, Stafford: 11)

Rushing TDs: 2 (Hill: 0, Stanton: 1, Stafford: 1)

2pts: 2 (Hill: 1, Stanton: 0, Stafford: 1)

Fumbles: 3 (Hill:1, Stanton: 1, Stafford: 1)

Combined fantasy points according to ESPN.com: 254 (Hill: 152, Stanton: 53, Stafford: 49)

These statistics put the combined three Lions QBs in 6th place behind Drew Brees at 263 and ahead of Josh Freeman at 246. It puts them right in between the division of 1st and 2nd tier QBs.
The main reason for these inflated numbers is that in 2010 the Lions were 3rd in number of passing attempts behind the Colts and Chargers. My reasoning for the continued fantasy success of their QB(s) is that the number of attempts isn’t likely to dip significantly in 2011 as there is still a great deal of uncertainty in the backfield and their premier back, Best, is utilized most effectively in the receiving game.
I don’t have anything bad to say about Shaun Hill, who played the vast majority of last season. He is everything you could ask for in a backup QB and more. That said, I believe, with his talent set and arm strength, that Stafford is better. Give Stafford a full 16 games with Megatron, Burleson, Best, and Pettigrew and you have a real monster on your hands.
Once again, I don’t mean to suggest that Stafford belongs in the conversation of elite QBs, but given his situation, breaking the top 5 in terms of fantasy success isn’t entirely ludicrous. At very least if you are a Stafford owner, show these stats around your league and trade high.
Let's have a great Fantasy Football season

So it is here at last...Football will start on
time with no game cancelled (Except the HoF game) So what can we expect this
year in the Fantasy world? Well...I'm just going to say it right now.
Handcuffs! No, im not talking about Micheal Vick getting caught playing with
dogs again, I am talking about the one thing we all hate...INJURIES! I expect
we will see them in the early weeks, perhaps to much for comfort. Clearly this
is due to players not being able to get their bodies in shape the way they were
use to. With the lockout players were unable to see their team trainers and all
that jazz. I mean the biggest signal we have right now is the whole Peyton
Manning injury. If I told you back in June that Manning wasn't going to start
in Week 1, what would you have said? Its sad to know we won't see him play week
1 (who knows how many other weeks at this point) but its something I had a
hunch about. These injuries... It is the main reason to make sure you have your
top player's handcuffs or other top players handcuffs. We will see players drop
the first few weeks, we will be given all the run around about their status, we
will be more frustrated this year than ever, but hey, what can you expect from
a lockout?

So nothing positive eh? Well...not all players
just sat around and waited for things to get resolved. There were many players
who "gathered the troops" and created workouts to keep them ready.
The two that stick out to me are Drew Brees and Philip Rivers. So if you have players from the Saints or
Chargers...I think you shouldn't expect anything serious in the first couple
weeks as far as injuries go. I never drafted handcuffs in my drafts unless it
was for my top picks. This year I am already banking on some players to go down
and picked up their handcuffs (most of them my oppenent's) I also think the
lockout will favor teams who aren't so young for the first couple of weeks.
Remember they didn't have much time to get everything together like they
usually do, So I am willing to bet the players that finished great last year
will see their numbers continue in that style for the first couple weeks while
everyone else is "catching up"

These first couple weeks will be interesting
to watch. I have prepared myself for the frustration that I am expecting. I am
also going to be ready to pick up those handcuffs as needed. I will also be
smiling when that first kickoff starts to begin a new season that was in doubt.
I think we are in for a bumpy ride these next few weeks, but hey, its gonna
make it memorable and teach us the importance of being "on your
game". Good luck to everyone this year and I hope to see many of you
having us as a website to give you all the advice you need.
